Sandwiches + Design

via behance
Speaking of colorful food, how enticing are these edible works of art? I tried ink.sack the other day, and now I have a bigger crush on sandwiches than usual. The packaging gets me every time.
The sandwich shop, 'wich, is located in Hong Kong.

Friday night links + A liberating weekend

via Fancy

Spring seems to be having its last hurrah with all these festivals popping up everywhere, so make sure to visit at least one before they're over! Then again, there are always summer festivals to look forward to.

In that vein, I think these braided hairstyles would be perfect for festival-goers. And everyone else. (via Refinery29)

First that spinning how-to and now a guest article on goop. Funnyman Max Greenfield is on his way up. (via goop)

This is interesting. A George Mason University professor encourages his students to fabricate stories about serial killers, beer, and pirates. They successfully conned people on Wikipedia, but were exposed by the almighty reddit. (via the Atlantic)

I didn't think I could ever appreciate a critique of modern art, but this explanation of Tobias Wong's work makes sense. I just thought gold made everything shinier. (via The Fox is Black)

Cannes sounds like so much fun this time of year. I wish they would stop wasting linen napkins too. (via Lainey Gossip)

This man decided to leave the internet for a year. That's brave. (via The Verge)

The internet isn't leaving us anytime soon, however. Facebook is now valued at $100 billion. (via The Verge)

Have a great weekend .

Freebies + Deals

Unknown source
Just a few freebies I really like and don't want you to miss out on:

via Sephora
On your birthday, Sephora will give you a nice mini-set if you sign up on its website. This year, the gift is a Sugar lip duo. Guys get lotion.

via His and Hers DIY
If you register a gift card, Starbucks will send you a swanky-looking postcard which entitles you to any drink (any size) at their store.

via The Markoff Group
Twitter is also a great way to get awesome deals and freebies. Sprinkles, for example, is well-known for tweeting a password everyday. Usually, the first 50 or so people to whisper the password at the bakery will get a free cupcake. Also, did you know they're opening a cupcake ATM? I'm not a big fan, but I will wait in line and buy a $4 cupcake just so I can try the machine. I know, I know. I'm every commercial's target audience.

Finally, Gilt City is a great way to see free movies before they're even released. Sometimes, they even provide drinks and appetizers! The only catch is that you have to RSVP as quickly as possible before space runs out. There's usually a screening every few weeks and the cities the rewards are available in include San Francisco, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, DC, Chicago, and Miami. I'm watching Friends with Kids this week at the Grove. Doesn't it look fun?

And there you have it ☺.

Wednesday Wishes + #sixseasonsandamovie

and #twelveseasonsandathemepark!

NBC needs to put Community back on their schedule. I know you're probably tired of hearing this, but give it a shot! I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to call it a show that is "changing television history", but it is undeniably heartwarming, quirky, and hilarious.

Favorites + Monday blues turn purple

Anthropologie has new outfits for us to drool over, and even though the yellow ensemble is my fave out of the three, who can resist that breeze?

Childhood + Books

Happy Monday! How did that extra hour feel? :)
via Bookshelf
When I was younger, I didn't fully enjoy children's books. I'm talking about those picture books meant to keep us quiet when our parents were busy. Or the ones used to nurture our education. Whichever. The stories felt too simple and easily resolved for me. Now that I'm a little older, I realize how wonderful they are and how even the simplest stories have so much heart. Plus, the pictures are gorgeous.
Remember Corduroy, the story of the teddy bear with a missing button?
You'll probably recognize Where the Sidewalk Ends, written by Shel Silverstein, who also wrote the very famous Giving Tree.

There was that freeloader in If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
And poor Stellaluna who is forced to act like a bird. Don't some bats eat birds?
Who can forget Strega Nona? And how badly do you want that magical pot (of noodles)?
There was all this hullabaloo about whether The Rainbow Fish was about socialism or how that lonely fish just gave in to peer pressure to be popular. I'm just upset the fish got uglier. Yes, I'm that shallow.
I'm sure you've read or heard Love You Forever, which is about a parent's unconditional love. Apparently, the author wrote it for his deceased children. Sad, but what a beautiful way to express those feelings.
I could go on forever, so I'll stop here...but don't forget about the Dr. Seuss and Curious George books, Guess How Much I Love You, The True Story of Three Little Pigs, Miss Nelson is Missing!, that book with the raccoons and their tea sets, and that little known story about Where the Wild Things Are.

What are your favorite children's books?

Favorites + Trailers

I love trailers.
via Pinterest
They're usually composed of the funniest and most exciting parts of a movie, and then coupled with this dramatic, pulsing music. They can also contain some essential plot point that basically tells the entire story and spoils the whole movie, but we'll save that discussion for a later time. My point is that trailers are awesome and do what they're meant to do: lure us in.

I really want this to be good. Good director, good writer, good (and so gorgeous) actress in Young Adult:

This remake seems totally unnecessary since the original did a competent job, but David Fincher is one of my favorite directors, and the actors involved are decent. Plus, you know I'm all about a sexy trailer, so I'll be watching The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo. Not on Christmas like they're advertising though; that totally killed the mood:
(Fincher's influence over Rooney Mara is a little disturbing, however. http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/rooney-mara-playing-with-fire/)

Johnny Depp. And not playing a pirate in The Rum Diary:

I only found out about Michael Fassbender's charm in the newest Xmen movie. I went for James McAvoy and fell for Magneto. And now I just want to watch everything this magnetic man is in, especially since he's "attracting" (aha. aha.) a lot of Oscar buzz for Shame:

Michelle Yeoh stars in Luc Besson's movie about Aung San Suu Kyi, who, whether you agree with her political views or not, is one courageous Lady:

A real British spy wrote this film about a mole in the British Intelligence. Stories about spies will never get old, especially when the author knows what he's talking about in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy:

Sometimes, we just need some mindless fun. And we're lucky to have Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, and Reese Witherspoon as an option in This Means War, which is also about spies:

There's also tons of other potentially great and entertaining films coming up like J. Edgar, The Great Gatsby, The Hunger Games (which is skewing a little young, don't you think?), The Descendants, We Need to Talk About Kevin, A Dangerous Method, all the superhero movies, book adaptations, and maybe even the Snow Whites. The list could go on forever.

Which movies are you most looking forward to?
