Sunday Special + An amazing week ahead

So my best and worst suspicions are confirmed: law school is definitely an adventure. More on this later when I can be coherent about this, but I'm glad it's lazy Sunday after such an eventful week.

I have succumbed to the culture around here and got a bike to get to class! It has a cute basket for my heavy casebooks. And on the way, I saw these cool-looking domes. Davis hippies. (via Davis Wiki)

Wednesday wishes + Happy 4th of July

I hope you have fun celebrating freedom, independence, no work/school, pretty fireworks, or whatever you like :). I'll be heading up to the mountains tonight to enjoy the show and full moon. What will you be up to?

Lady Danville + The Last of Summer

The flipped-over van on their album cover is from an accident they had while touring. via Lady Danville
Now that I have around a month left before starting law school, I've been trying to cram as many local events as I can before leaving. I was lucky enough to see Lady Danville play at Grand Performances this past Sunday, and it felt like I was experiencing the epitome of a SoCal summer. The weather was the perfect amount of sunny, the venue was beautiful, the drinks were plentiful, and the talented band (from Los Angeles!) had a sound that was just too easy to love. I'm going to miss this place.

Wisdom teeth + Yelp parties

I was in the middle of getting a cavity filled yesterday (TMI, I know) when my dentist suddenly declared that I had to get my wisdom teeth taken out before it got any worse. As a result, I haven't eaten since 9AM yesterday and desperately want to take a bite out of these toothy-looking cupcakes.

There's also a big yelp event tonight I've been looking forward to. How will I take full advantage of all the free food now? The problems I am plagued with are no joke.

Friday night links + A persevering weekend

via Design*Sponge
Are you wondering why I decided to post a picture of a wall, even if it is a very nice wall? It's because it happens to be hand-painted by cake-maker/business owner Ava Rostin and took over a year to complete! In case you couldn't already tell, I am very much in awe of her patience and skill.

Another example of patience: a man edits 1,000,000 Wikipedia articles for free. (via Gizmodo)

It's been awhile, but...sample sales are back! If you're in LA, eight are available for your pleasure from 9:30-5PM. That's a full day of work, so get busy. (via Racked LA)

This summer, you can join a big LA vs. SF car rally that involves exploring abandoned mine shafts and egg fights in the middle of the night. I understand the thrill of scavenger hunts, but I wouldn't volunteer my car to be egged and pelted with smoke bombs. If you have an extremely nice friend or an extremely old car, it costs $142 per carload. (via Thrillist)

Witty thank you notes from the famous. (via Mental Floss)

Love this canary yellow + violet blue combo. And drooling over those sandals. And that ring! (via Creature Comforts Blog)

Like many, I believe breakfast is good for you, but these precise percentages do make me scoff. The illustrations accompanying the statistics, however, are much too cute to ignore. (via Co.Exist)

Beautiful before + after. (via Design*Sponge)

I'll be going to more law school events (still!) this weekend and am also planning on working in some shopping. There's a beauty event going on at the cosmetics section in Bloomingdales; I have some store credit at Macy's left to spend, and I want to look for a gift for Mother's Day. I'm trying my hardest to make up for not buying that Zara dress a few of posts down...although that definitely wasn't from lack of effort. It's not available in store or online! I sense a conspiracy. Maybe.
Have a great weekend as always, everyone .

This is uncool. Friday night links + A lovely weekend

How will you be celebrating the infamous Valentine's holiday? Dinner by candle-light? Cheery picnic? Romantic movie? Will you be busy at work or in school? I'll...be going to a tea party...Here are a few more options!

Puppy Conan! (via Team Coco)

I have been eating out way too much and am going to have to start packing my lunch at the very least. But I wanted to post a quick review of notable places I visited these past few weeks.

Spago was the epitome of class. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. The decor was quiet and refined. And most importantly, the food was delicious.

Little Next Door, on the other hand, was a terrible experience. I had friends drive over an hour for that mess. This sums up our night.

Finally, I went to a screening of This Means War at the Grove last night (not very good, but a few laughs), and they offered free appetizers and drinks at The Farm of Beverly Hills beforehand. The service was great, and the food was great. It's a small, chic place that I definitely plan on visiting again. We could've ended it there as a free night out, but of course, we decided to cross something off our restaurant list by visiting Red Medicine. I felt like I enjoyed the food more than my friend and found each dish to be well-done and very pretty to look at (I am such a sucker). The drinks were weak, and everything was over-priced, but I want to go again anyway. I guess I haven't learned my lesson yet.

Whatever you're doing this weekend, whether it's a night out or a night in, have a lovely one ♥.

Wednesday wishes + DineLA

Just a reminder that DineLA is happening these next two weeks (minus Saturday), and it's the perfect excuse opportunity for you to try some of LA's finest offerings for a reasonable (kind of) price. I'm going to Spago for lunch tomorrow and Little Next Door sometime next week, and I hope they live up to their hype. I'm already picturing the beautifully-plated food. The creative dishes. The desserts. I'm excited!

AFI Fest 2011 + Free tickets

via AFI
Holy mackerel. Did you know you can get free tickets to Hollywood screenings just by reserving them online? Apparently this goes on every year. I'm a little too late in getting tickets to the J. Edgar biopic (Leo's going to be there!), but there's still a chance for Shame, Carnage, Arirang, and plenty more potentially great films.

You just sign up and reserve your tickets here. I do think there's a bigger chance of scoring tickets if you actually wait in line at the theater though.

To be honest, I'm not always a fan of The Office, but I do love James Spader and scary stories. Combine the two, and you get a well-spoken monologue with this little insight on fear: "Fear plays an interesting role in our lives. How dare we let it motivate us. How dare we let it into our decision making, into our livelihoods, into our relationships. It's funny, isn't it? We take a day a year to dress up in costume and celebrate fear." Robert California

It's true, and it's definitely interesting to think about, but I still hope you get the crap scared out of you this weekend. Have a spooky (and safe!) one.

Goblins and Ghouls + Fun

DIY Peacock
It's that time of year again when you have an excuse to act like a kid, eat like a kid, and maybe even wear a kid-size shirt. Halloween falls on a Monday this year which just means it's become a four-day party. Having trouble filling in those days? It might be too late to visit Vegas or dance at Hard unless you're willing to spend an exorbitant amount, but no worries; there's never a shortage of things to do in LA.

So what do you do when you're too old for trick-or-treating? Remember that you're NEVER too old for candy.

The Egyptian Theater will be throwing its third annual King Tut's Tomb party on the 28th. Prices start at $20, but will increase tonight. (via Our Night Life)

If you want to party with Playmates (and Madame Tussaud’s wax figurines), there's two costume balls steps away from each other at Hollywood and Highlands. Medina will be performing. Event's on the 29th for $90 which includes open bar and buffet. (via Thrillist Rewards) General admission starts at $30 for just the Playboy party. (via Our Night Life)

Premiere Supperclub has their own Saints & Sinners Ball for $23 with open bar from 9-11PM. Also on the 29th. (via Clubzone)

On the 30th, Maxim is holding a Masquerade Ball at Supperclub Hollywood. Prices start at $50 (via Our Night Life)

Here's a fuller link of nightclubs and pub crawls.

For those who like to start celebrating during the day, Groupon is offering a $15 deal, which includes a bratwurst and beer, for an Ocktoberfest at Old World Village in Huntington Beach. Ticket is valid for the 28th-30th, but the deal ends tonight so hurry! (via Groupon)

A list of the area's best haunted houses is ready for those who like to scare themselves silly. (via The Rundown)

Here's something a bit different. There's a Boozy Scavenger Hunt with a small afterparty if you're interested. Happening on the 29th during the afternoon for $25. (via Thrillist Rewards)

The streets of West Hollywood at night are always fun on the 31st if you just want to walk around and gawk at costumes. A few years ago, I remembered being hugged by no less than 10 very friendly people. There's usually musical performances throughout the night.

Most theme parks, shopping centers, etc. will probably have something Halloween-related if none of this is working out or you could throw your own costume party, which is always exciting. Just make sure it doesn't feel like you live with party cat by Tuesday morning.
